The Kiwanis Club of Northeast Dallas County is a non-profit 501c(3) community service organization making a significant impact in the lives of children and families in our communities through education and mentoring, feeding the hungry, and as a significant contributor to the Disaster Relief Backpack Project.
Education and Mentoring – we are proud to support students across the GISD from elementary school to high school with a host of programs to enhance their education and teach them valuable leadership skills through community awareness and service.
Feeding the Hungry – food insecurity is at an all-time high and a “New study reveals Texas tops the nation in hunger crisis” according to a recent article published on May 15, 2024 by NBCDFW. Local food bank officials say, “Texas is grappling with a food insecurity rate of 16.4%, equating to nearly 5 million individuals facing hunger, a significant increase from 2021. Alarmingly, over one-third of those affected are children.”
Disaster Relief – through our partnership with the Texas-Oklahoma District of Kiwanis International we have helped raise funds and supplied over 500 Kiwanis Disaster Relief Backpacks to communities all over the region. Backpacks are filled with essential items to help adults and children through those first 24-36 critical hours after disaster strikes. Disaster Relief Backpacks are also given to fire departments and CERT Teams in the area. One backpack fully filled costs around $35.00
